The device was already charged on receipt of delivery, and you need to take care not to press the safety button by mistake. However, it works very well; blades can be easily changed and it does a good job of trimming bushes and plants. It is lightweight too, and not too heavy to hold when there are several plants to trim. Also, it runs very quietly, and the initial charge seemed to last quite a while. So far, we are quite impressed with the trimmer as it saves a lot of work and time in the garden. Also, less expensive than some of the other products on sale. Although, at this stage, we haven't owned the device for long.

I was extremely dubious at what I would get for £30. I am pleasantly surprised I breezed arou d all my lawn edging and we have a big garden. The 7v battery just keeps going and going, its fantastic! I haven't tried the hedge trimmer yet but dashed on here to review the tool as I am so pleased with it. Its made light work of knee high couch grass after a few goings over so now I can dig everything over. My trimmers never cut as close as is needed and always run out of battery life. Really pleased with this bit of kit.

Works well if you're someone who trims their hedge regularly. However, if you let your hedge grow too far, the branches inside get thicker, and this machine doesn't have enough power to cut those. It stalls when the branch is a little too too thick. It kinda gets annoying, which is why I gave this 3 stars. Battery life is a bit on the poor side, could be better. It does last the 45 minutes they say it does though, but my hedge is pretty large, so it takes more time than this machine can provide.

I needed a small trimmer/strimmer for 2 reasons, firstly I have medical conditions which means using a bog-standard hedge trimmer was virtually impossible, and very painful. Secondly we have a catio and need something small enough to reach the grass parts and tidy up in there! This trimmer is brilliant! As soon as it arrived I used it on our boxwood hedge which is around 12ft in length and just over 5ft high. The trimmer did not need charging on arrival and I managed to tidy up the hedge easily, even though it was becoming unruly! Thicker branches did trim but needed a bit more pressure applied, and I did not have to recharge the battery while trimming the hedge. I have now started on the back garden hedge and will do the catio grass with the smaller attachment over the weekend. I am so happy with this, it's really easy to use, I just wish I had bought one much sooner!

I recently bought this at full price (£25.99) after returning one of those larger trimmer because they were too bulky and hard to control. i have a small garden and about 10 small goldcrest that i wanted to keep in shape and on the small to medium size (between 1 and 2 meters high). I have started on 3 of them and it was easy to shape them and go around on curved surface. I loved the easy swap to the smaller shears that i used to cut the grass at the edge against the wall. Regarding what they are able to cut through (i wish someone had mentioned this clearly before)... as a point of reference, I would say anything that it would be easy with secateur. if you normally have to put some pressure on your secateur, these will get stuck. this is not a power tool, its a high speed tool, if that makes sense. Unless you have 10s of meters of hedge, these should be able to do the job. Give it a try, it's cheap enough and easy enough to manoeuvre. Last thing, as someone mentioned, you push a safety button once to start the shear by pressing on the handle. When you stop, the safety should get released. this sometimes does not happen, especially if you don't completely release the handle. This could be seen by a safety issue, but i don't think it is. Firstly cause the tool cannot cut through a twig, so it's hardly going to do substantial damage, secondly, because sometimes you stop for a second a restart and that's actually a relief if you don't have to keep pressing the safety button. But please keep it in mind if you think it needs to be used but someone prone to accidents!! :)
